A 110-page manual for organists to help them "perfect the art of playing the organ and playing hymns" was being made available throughout the Church, reported the Sept. 5, 1970, issue of the Church News.

"The 110 pages of material is devoted to the beginning student, to help him play hymns more accurately, easily and meaningfully," the article explained. "The seasoned organist isn't forgotten either. There are many reminders and suggestions to give new life to the playing of the instrument."

More than one-half the book was devoted to preparatory exercises for specific hymns and the hymns themselves.

Titled "Hymn Studies for Organists," information in the manual had been taught in numerous stakes of the Church under the auspices of the Church General Music Committee. The book "is primarily concerned with accuracy of notes and rhythm, repeated notes and phrasing - three disciplines that are necessary in all organ performance."

Quote from the past

"Perhaps the most important reason of all for the growth of the Church is the individual testimonies of the divinity of this work, as would be multiplied in the hearts of the individual members of the Church." - President Harold B. Lee, in an address given in general conference April 6, 1973.
