Work on the scale model of "This is the Place" Monument had been completed by Mahonri M. Young prior to the enlargement being undertaken by a New York City firm, reported the Aug. 4, 1945, issue of the Church News.
Brother Young had completed a four-foot model of the monument's principal group of figures - Brigham Young, Heber C. Kimball and Wilford Woodruff. The three were to be placed atop the monument's central granite shaft.
The article also noted that the contract to enlarge the three figures to their full 12-foot size had been awarded to Rochette and Parzine, a New York firm "famous throughout the world for its enlargements."
The sculptor, a grandson of Brigham Young, had been working on the figures at his studio in Ridgefield, Conn. Rochette and Parzine was to make the enlargement in clay, which would be approved by Brother Young. Then a plaster cast would be made in which the final bronze figures for the monument would be molded.
The article also said that the sculptor was nearing completion of the other two major figure groups - Fathers Escalante and Dominguez with eight soldiers, and the General Ashley group with trappers.
