- The Saturday afternoon session was the only one during which President Gordon B. Hinckley did not speak. However, members of the congregation seemed inspired by his presence as they enthusiastically sung "We Thank Thee, Oh God, For a Prophet" as the intermediate hymn.
President James E. Faust, second counselor in the First Presidency, conducted the session while President Thomas S. Monson, first counselor in the First Presidency, conducted business as a new Sunday School general presidency was sustained, two members of the First Quorum of the Seventy were given emeritus status and four members of the Second Quorum of the Seventy were released.
The combined ward choirs of the Cottonwood (Utah) Region added to the spirit of the meeting by singing popular hymns "The Morning Breaks," "I Am a Child of God" and "Come, Come Ye Saints." Elder Vaughn J Featherstone offered the invocation and Elder W. Don Ladd, gave the benediction.
