In the April 1987 general conference, Elder Russell M. Nelson of the Quorum of the Twelve spoke of the many people who had seen the resurrected Savior. In summary, Elder Nelson said the resurrected Lord was seen by:
1. Mary Magdalene. (See John 20:16-17.)2. Mary (mother of James), Salome (mother of James and John), Joanna, Susanna, and many others. (See Mark 16:1; Luke 8:3.)
3. Simon Peter (see 1 Cor. 15:5), the senior apostle, who then held the keys of priesthood authority on earth.
4. Cleopas and presumably Luke, on the road to Emmaus. (See Luke 24:30, 33.)
5. Ten apostles in an upper room; Thomas was absent. (Luke 24:42-43.)
6. Eleven apostles, including Thomas, eight days after His first appearance to His apostles. (See John 20:26-28.)
7. Seven apostles at the Sea of Tiberias. Later Peter was commanded to feed the flock of God. (See John 21:1-24.)
8. Congregation of more than 500 on a mount near Galilee's shore. (See 1 Cor. 15:6.)
9. Eleven apostles on "a mountain where Jesus had appointed them." There He charged them, "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations." (Matt. 28:16, 19.)
10. James, brother of Jesus. (See 1 Cor. 15:7.)
11. Paul, who said, "And last of all he was seen of me." (1 Cor. 15:8; see also Acts 9:4-5.)
12. Leaders of the Church in Asia, to whom Jesus, prior to His ascension from the Mount of Olives, bade farewell and foretold, "Ye shall be witnesses unto me . . . unto the uttermost part of the earth." (Acts 1:8; see also Mark 16:19, Luke 24:50-51.)
13. Stephen as he was stoned as a martyr at the gate of Jerusalem. (Acts 7:55.)
14. The Nephites (at least 2,500) in the American hemisphere (see 3 Ne. 17:25), who heard His voice, felt the nail marks in His hands and feet, and thrust their hands into His side. (See 3 Ne. 11:7-17.)
15. The dead in the post-earthly spirit world. (See 3 Ne. 23:9-10; also 1 Pet. 4:6; see also 1 Pet. 3:19-21; John 5:25, and D&C 138.)
