Members of a ward are not only building a congregation, they are also building the kingdom of God.

To Bishop Joe Moffitt of the McMinnville Ward, McMinnville Tennessee Stake, the Church News and other Church publications help remind members they are part of a worldwide Church family."As far away as we are from the Rocky Mountains," Bishop Moffitt said, speaking of his ward, "I like to instill in our families a feeling of identity with the Church as a whole. The Church News helps us keep abreast of what's going on in the Church. It's important for families to keep a strong identity with other members.

"If President

Thomas S.T Monson is in Sweden, it's important to know what he's doing and those sorts of things," Bishop Moffitt noted. He added that reading about the routine activities of President Gordon B. Hinckley, such as being a special guest at a luncheon, "helps you have a strong identity with the prophet."

Referring to how the Church News helps him in his calling, Bishop Moffitt explained that he uses many portions of the publication, such as the "Viewpoint," in many of his talks.

He added that it's important as a bishop to be "constantly feeding your mind. That's one of the reasons I like to read the Church News and Church magazines."

He added that "constantly feeding your mind" helps you prepare for one-on-one situations with ward members where you may not have time to look up helpful articles.
