Philip T. Sonntag, 73, Ensign 1st Ward, Salt Lake Ensign Stake, called as president of the Portland Oregon Temple, succeeding Pres. Thomas Y. Emmett. Pres. Sonntag's wife, Voloy Andreasen Sonntag, will serve as temple matron. Pres. Sonntag served in the Second Quorum of the Seventy from 1984-89, and is a former regional representative, mission president in New Zealand and Connecticut, stake presi dent and bishop. The owner of a jewelry company, he attended the University of Utah and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was born in Salt Lake City to Richard Peter and Lena E. Tadge Sonntag. Sister Sonntag accompanied her husband on two missions, is a former early- morning seminary teacher, Church hostess, and stake YWMIA president and leader. She was born in Cleveland, (Bannock County) Idaho, to Roy Casper and Lula Sophia Larsen Andreasen.
