- The hymn by Philip Paul Bliss, "Brightly Beams Our Father's Mercy" (Hymns No. 335), set the tone for the priesthood session as it was movingly performed by a combined institute men's choir from Logan, Ogden, Salt Lake University and Orem institutes of religion. Sermons delivered at the session focused on serving the individual, being shepherds for the Lord's flock, proclaiming the gospel and serving others through the priesthood.
An organizational change to more effectively administer God's Kingdom on the earth and cope with the Church's growth was announced by President Gordon B. Hinckley at the session.
Elder Glenn L. Pace of the Seventy gave the invocation, and Elder F. David Stanley of the Seventy offered the benediction.
