- The Sunday morning session was made memorable in several ways, most particularly by a powerful message from the prophet to "stand on your feet with a song in your heart" and "move this work forward across the world." Other addresses during the session were also powerful.

President Gordon B. Hinckley conducted the session, and music was provided by the Tabernacle Choir. Donald Ripplinger, associate conductor, directed the choir for the last time in general conference, as he will retire in January, it was announced. Accompaniment was by Clay Christiansen. Songs performed by the choir included "Lo, the Mighty God Appearing," "Lean on My Ample Arm," "What Was Witnessed in the Heavens," and a medley of Primary songs arranged by Brother Ripplinger: "When He Comes Again," "Families Can Be Together Forever," and "I Love to See the Temple." "Awake and Arise," and "Where Love Is" concluded the session. The invocation was offered by Elder Hugh W. Pinnock and the benediction by Elder Carlos H. Amado, both of the Seventy.
