Six new mission presidents have been called by the First Presidency. The mission presidents and their wives will begin their service about July 1. The new mission presidents and where they will serve are:
Thomas E. Cavanaugh, 43, Colombia Barranquilla Mission; Folsom 2nd Ward, Fair Oaks California Stake; bishop; former stake Sunday School president, bishop's counselor, membership clerk, Sunday School president and teacher, elders quorum president's counselor, and missionary in the Costa Rica San Jose Mission; chiropractor; attended the University of Maryland and BYU, and received bachelor of science and doctor of chiropractic degrees from the Pasadena College of Chiropractic; born in East Chicago, Indiana, to Edward Boniface and Elizabeth Jo Stolle Schafer Cavanaugh; married Colleen Jamison, five children. She is a Primary board member and Cub Scout den leader; former stake missionary, Young Women president's counselor, Primary president's counselor, Relief Society teacher, Primary board member and teacher, and inservice leader; attended Orange Coast College and BYU; born in Van Nuys, Calif., to Nolan Keller and Ida Mae Marshall Jamison.David A. Christensen, 58, Utah Salt Lake City Mission; Jordan 4th Ward, Salt Lake Jordan Stake; stake president; Church Melchizedek Priesthood General Committee member, Church Instructional Development Committee member, stake president's counselor, high councilor, member of stake mission presidency, bishop, and missionary in the Brazil Mission; institute director; received bachelor's degree in speech, master's degree in communications and doctorate in education from BYU; born in Provo, Utah, to Eartmann Hesse and Bernice Vance Christensen; married Patricia Williams, four children. She is a Relief Society board member; former stake Relief Society president's counselor, Relief Society president and counselor, Sunday School secretary and teacher, Primary chorister and branch chorister; attended BYU; born in Missoula, Mont., to Kenneth Lavern and Helen Juliana Ryan Uhlman Williams.
Rodney B. Cuthbert, 46, Brazil Campinas Mission; Park 5th Ward, Orem Utah Park Stake; Young Men president's counselor; former high councilor, bishop, Young Men president, member of Missionary Training Center branch presidency, and missionary in the South Brazil Mission; teacher and principal in the Church Educational System; received bachelor's degree in psychology and master's degree in instructional technology from Utah State University; born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Kenneth W. and Deone Tolley Cuthbert; married Louise Salisbury, six children. She is stake Primary president; former stake Relief Society president's counselor, and Primary president and inservice leader; received bachelor's degree in music from Utah State University; born in Logan, Utah, to Ramsden Bybee and Patricia Fay Trotman Salisbury.
R. Quinn Gardner, 53, Argentina Bahia Blanca Mission; Bountiful Hills Ward, Bountiful Utah Central Stake; high councilor; former stake Young Men president, high councilor, bishop and counselor, Sunday School teacher, and missionary in the Uruguay Mission; president of Senergy Inc.; received bachelor's degree and master's degree in English from BYU; born in Colorado Springs, Colo., to Ralph Miller and Grace Robinson Gardner; married Donna Jeanne Hilton, eight children. She is Relief Society president; former stake Young Women president's counselor, stake Relief Society president's counselor and board member, Primary president and counselor, choir director and organist, Sunday School organist and teacher, Relief Society teacher and Primary teacher; received bachelor's degree in English from BYU; born in Albuquerque, N.M., to Lyle and Sally Electa Palmer Hilton.
Charles R. Hobbs, 64, New Hampshire Manchester Mission; Eagle Gate 2nd Ward, Salt Lake Eagle Gate Stake; teacher development coordinator; former associate director of Church Teacher Development Program, Church Meetinghouse Library Committee member, high councilor, stake Sunday School president, bishop's counselor, branch presidency member, ward mission leader, Sunday School president and teacher, and missionary in Holland; President of the Charles R. Hobbs Corp.; received bachelor's degree in music education and master's degree in counseling from BYU, and doctorate in learning and teaching theory from Columbia University; born in Logan, Utah, to Milo Purnel and Bertha Monson Skidmore Hobbs; married Nola Davis, three children. She is Relief Society historian; former worker in name extraction program, Young Women president, Primary president and teacher, Primary inservice leader, Relief Society president's counselor, and missionary in the North Central States Mission; attended Utah State University, Weber State Jr. College, Stevens-Henager Business College, and LDS Business College; born in Preston, Idaho, to David Emanuel and Annie Nelson Davis.
Gordon Williams, 60, Scotland Edinburgh Mission; Spen Valley Ward, Huddersfield England Stake; bishop; former regional representative, stake president and counselor, high councilor, and bishop and counselor; owner of woodworking machinery company; attended Sheffield College of Arts and Crafts; born in Sheffield, England, to Robert John and Lily Womack Williams; married Margaret Hirst, five children. She is Primary president; former stake Relief Society president, Primary president's counselor and teacher, Relief Society president and counselor, and Young Women president; born in Heckmondwike, England, to Cyril and Ida Faulkner Hirst.
