Four leaders receive new assignments

The First Presidency has announced changes in the Presidency of the Seventy. Elder Jack H Goaslind and Elder Harold G. Hillam have been called to the presidency, while Elder Rex D. Pinegar and Elder Charles Didier will be released from the presidency and called to area presidencies, effective Aug. 15.

Elder Goaslind, 67, is serving in the Presidency of the Seventy for the second time. Sustained to the First Quorum of the Seventy on Sept. 30, 1978, he was in the presidency of the Seventy from 1985-87. He is currently first counselor in the Utah South Area presidency and is Young Men general president. He will continue to serve as Young Men general president.Born April 18, 1928, in Salt Lake City, Elder Goaslind graduated from the University of Utah, was an officer in the U.S. Air Force and vice president of a metals corporation. He and his wife, Gwen Caroline Bradford Goaslind, are parents of six children.

Prior to his call as a General Authority, Elder Goaslind served as a counselor in the Aaronic Priesthood MIA general presidency, president of the Arizona Tempe Mission, regional representative, stake president and bishop.

Elder Hillam, 59, has been president of the Brazil Area and will continue in that position until Aug. 15. He was sustained to the Second Quorum of the Seventy on March 31, 1990, and to the First Quorum of the Seventy on April 6, 1991.

He was born Sept. 1, 1935, in Sugar City, Idaho. He attended BYU and earned a DDS degree from Northwestern University in Chicago. An orthodontist, he was president of several dental and orthodontic societies. He and his wife, Carol Rasmussen Hillam, are the parents of seven children.

Prior to his call as a General Authority, Elder Hillam served as a regional representative, president of the Portugal Lisbon Mission, and stake president and counselor.

Elder Pinegar, 63, has been called as second counselor in the Asia North Area presidency. He has been serving as a president of the Seventy since Sept. 30, 1989. Sustained to the First Council of the Seventy on Oct. 6, 1972, and to the First Quorum of the Seventy on Oct. 1, 1976, he also previously served as a counselor in the Young Men general presidency.

Elder Pinegar was born Sept. 18, 1931, in Orem, Utah. He earned a bachelor's degree from BYU, a master's degree from San Francisco State College and a doctorate in education from the University of Southern California. He was chairman of the Educational Psychology Department at BYU. He and his wife, Bonnie Lee Crabb Pinegar, are parents of six children.

Prior to his call as a General Authority, Elder Pinegar served as president of the Virginia-North Carolina Mission and as a member of the Sunday School general board.

Elder Didier, 59, has been called as first counselor in the Europe East Area presidency. He was sustained to the First Quorum of the Seventy on Oct. 3, 1975, and was called to the presidency on Oct. 3, 1992. He has also been serving as Sunday School general president.

Born Oct. 5, 1935, at Ixelles, Belgium, Elder Didier joined the Church as a convert in 1957. He graduated from the University of Liege with a degree in economics and served as an officer in the Belgian Air Force Reserve. He and his wife, Lucie Lodomez Didier, are the parents of two children.

Elder Didier has also served in the Church as president of the France Switzerland Mission, regional representative and branch president.
