Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man which built his house upon a rock:

And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. - Matthew 7:24-25; see also 3 Ne. 14:24-25.

In 1960 while I was investigating the Church, but still attending my other church, I was rushing one particular Sunday morning to get my 5-year old daughter and myself ready to attend my "current" church.

As we went out the door, I grabbed the "Bible" and Sunday School manual. At church I loaned my manual to some visitors. The lesson that morning was the parable of the man who built his house upon the rock, found in Matthew.

I opened my "Bible" and the letters

A - L - M - A in very large bold type jumped out at me! I could remember having read this parable a few days before in this "Bible," but where? I frantically began flipping through the pages until I found what I was looking for in 3rd Nephi.

I was asked to stand and read the scriptural reference for the lesson. The 1960 missionary edition of "The Book of Mormon" had the name on the spine and the front cover, along with a picture of the Angel Moroni. How to cover all that up with my hands? I somehow managed, read the scripture, sat down, and no one ever noticed.

As I sat there, I received a testimony that Joseph Smith is a prophet, that he had translated the Book of Mormon from the plates, and that the Church was true.

After the class, I retrieved my daughter, left the building, went two blocks up the street to where the "Church" was meeting, and never returned. Thirty-five years later, my testimony continues to grow.
