Dates for public showings and dedication of the Provo and Ogden temples were announced in the Nov. 13, 1971, Church News.

The Ogden Temple was scheduled to be open to the public Dec. 16-30, except Sundays and Christmas Day, and to be dedicated in six sessions Jan. 18-20. It was further announced that the Provo Temple would be open to the public Jan. 10-29, except Sundays, and would be dedicated in two sessions Feb. 9.

"Overflow facilities for those attending this [Provo] dedication will be provided in the new BYU Special Events Center and the George Albert Smith Fieldhouse," the article said.

The Ogden Temple district included 25 stakes from Kaysville in the south to three stakes in the southern part of Box Elder County on the north. Thirty-four stakes from Santaquin on the south to Lehi on the north were included in the Provo Temple district.

The article said that the decision to build the temples was made in 1967 by President David O. McKay. President Joseph Fielding Smith was to officiate at the dedication of each temple.

Quote from the past

"Honesty and integrity as perfected virtues in parents are more likely to become the heritage and rich endowments of their children. Parents cannot give to their children that which they do not possess." - Elder Delbert L. Stapley of the Quorum of the Twelve in the April 1971 general conference.
