During his address at a fireside in Manila, President Gordon B. Hinckley announced that Elder Augusto A. Lim of the Seventy has been called to serve as president of the Manila Philippines Temple.

"I'm going to break some news tonight. . . . I feel inclined to announce that Pres. Augusto Lim has been called to preside over the Manila Philippines Temple . . . and Sister Lim to serve as temple matron, effective Sept. 1 of this year. . . ."They are the first of the Philippine people, natives, to preside over this temple. It is wonderful the time has come when that will be the case," President Hinckley said. " These are true and good and precious people in whom we have every confidence as we feel the great spirit of love for them."

President Hinckley also said, "I want to thank Pres. Myron L. Francom, . . . who presides over that temple, and Sister [Laura Boley] Francom who is the matron of that temple, for the great service which they have given here."
