Hall of fame honors former BYU standout

Kresimir Cosic, who was an all-American at BYU, has been elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass. Brother Cosic, who joined the Church in 1971 while at BYU, died of cancer on May 25, 1995.

Brother Cosic will be inducted into the hall of fame with five other players on May 6.One of the most popular athletes in BYU history, the 6-foot-11 Yugoslavian added three All-Western Athletic Conference awards to his all-America honors during the 1971-73 seasons.

His 1,512 points place him as the seventh-leading scorer in BYU history. He is the top-ranked scorer among those who played less than four seasons.

He turned down the chance to play professional basketball in the United States to return to play and coach in Yugoslavia. He was a seven-time member of the All-European Team. As a member of the Yugoslavia national team he played in four Olympics, winning a gold medal and two silvers.

In 1992 he was appointed Croatia's deputy ambassador to the United States, and in 1994 served as Croatia's acting ambassador to the U.S.

Brother Cosic served in the Church as president of the Yugoslavian and Croatia districts.
