Texas A&M head coach R.C. Slocum had just finished his tour of Cougar Stadium Aug. 22 when he paused to consider what he had seen.
"I'm not aware of a finer facility in America," he said.Brigham Young University has a national reputation for an attractive venue in which to play football, and a place where opposing teams are well treated, said BYU athletic director, Rondo Fehlberg.
Fans and A&M officials arrived in Salt Lake City Aug. 22 prior to the Pigskin Classic. They spent the evening touring Temple Square where they sat in the shade of the North Visitors Center while looking at the temple which seemed ablaze in the setting sun.
After viewing the Christus and a video in the visitors center, the more than 100-member delegation sat in the front rows of the Tabernacle where they were treated to the harmony and precision of the Tabernacle Choir during rehearsal.
"It's a solemn experience to hear the choir sing," said Texas A&M president, Dr. Ray M. Bowen, after hearing "O My Father," and "Battle Hymn of the Republic."
