The Church News helps keep one "tethered" to the developments of an international Church, said B. Kent Burton, second counselor in the McLean Virginia Stake presidency.
As a new year dawns and the 21st century draws near, one will find spiritual ties to the international Church increasingly important. And, Pres. Burton said that in his calling he frequently uses inspirational thoughts from the Church News, such as from page 2, where quotes from President Gordon B. Hinckley are regularly published. He said such inspirational thoughts are often used in stake presidency and high council meetings.
The Church News has been a part of Pres. Burton's life as long as he can recall. "I remember the Church News back in my years growing up in Bountiful, Utah, 35 years ago."
