About eight years ago, new BYU head basketball coach Steve Cleveland and his wife Kip wanted to have another child; they already had two boys. Doctors advised against it, but Brother and Sister Cleveland felt impressed that there was one more special spirit to come into their family.
At the same time, they had feelings they might leave their long-time home in Fresno, Calif., and live in Utah someday. One impression was fulfilled when their daughter, Katie, was born in 1990.
Then Brother Cleveland was contacted about coaching at BYU. He thought his other impression would be fulfilled, but he didn't get the job as an assistant to then-head basketball coach Roger Reid. The position went to another candidate whom he knew was well qualified - Lynn Archibald.
Brother Cleveland said, "It tested my faith a little bit. I thought everything seemed so right, and yet it didn't happen."
But rather than letting the situation get him down, he recommitted himself to his family, the Church and his career and was blessed in all three, he said. In fact, his Fresno City College team won about 90 games over the next three years.
Finally, the second impression was fulfilled when he was hired last winter to be BYU's new head coach.
