Competitive activities in the Church are opportunities for participation, sportsmanship, fellowship and activation for members and non-members. The goal to excel should not be forgotten, but the emphasis should be on participation.

A serious need to teach and stress sportsmanship exists in the Church. Participation in competitive sports requires the self-control of players, coaches, and spectators; all should follow Christ's teachings. Players, coaches and leaders should understand that the negative and intimidating behavior seen in professional sports has no place in Church programs. Two media aids are available. . . to help leaders: A Winning Season, a 12-minute filmstrip with a cassette tape (53259) and The Church Sports Official, a 14-minute videocassette (53019).- Activities Committee Handbook, p. 8
