Even though they lost to Ohio State in the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day, several members of the Arizona State University football team who are members of the Church played contributing roles in a season that included a victory over two-time defending national champion Nebraska and saw the Sun Devils win the PAC 10.
Lance Anderson of Apple Valley, Calif., averaged 42.6 yards per punt during the year. He punted eight times during the Rose Bowl, including punts to the 3-and 5-yard line.Ron McCook, a senior out of Tempe who served in the Australia Brisbane Mission, played linebacker and on special teams. He was a four-time winner of the 12th Man Award given by ASU coaches.
Paul Reynolds, a junior out of Snowflake, Ariz., who gave up an opportunity to be a four-year starter to serve in the Chile Santiago South Mission, played linebacker and special teams. He was a three-time winner of the Special Teams Player of the Week award.
ASU ended the season ranked 4th nationally after losing 20-17 in the Rose Bowl.
