President Gordon B. Hinckley and his wife, Sister Marjorie P. Hinckley, were riding in a car that was involved in an automobile accident in Managua, Nicaragua, Tuesday, Jan. 21. President Hinckley was not injured, and Sister Hinckley suffered only minor scratches.
President and Sister Hinckley were on their way to the airport in Managua when a pickup truck carrying steel beams stopped abruptly. Some of the beams struck the rented car in which President and Sister Hinckley were riding.Elder Russell M. Nelson of the Quorum of the Twelve and his wife, Sister Dantzel Nelson, were in the car following the Hinckleys and were not involved in the accident.
President Hinckley and his party continued to the airport and traveled to San Pedro Sula, Honduras, for their scheduled meetings with Church members. President Hinckley and his party are on a 10-day tour, which began Jan. 18 with meetings in Jacksonville, Fla., and continues through Jan. 27 with meetings scheduled in six nations in Central America.
