- Almost all in the congregation were already in shirtsleeves by the time President Gordon B. Hinckley, who conducted, opened the priesthood session. But he put everyone at ease, observing: "It's warm in the Tabernacle. If you'd like to shed your jackets, please feel at liberty to do so. You will not be in violation of the rules of the Church."

President James E. Faust began his talk with a tenderly humorous reference to the inspirational message given at an earlier session by Elder Neal A. Maxwell, who is improving after treament for cancer: "I have asked Elder Maxwell to speak at my funeral. And I haven't any intention of leaving this world soon."

The combined male voices of the Tabernacle Choir and Mormon Youth Chorus, with directors Jerold D. Ottley and Robert C. Bowden sharing duties at the podium, furnished music. Elder V. Dallas Merrill of the Seventy offered the invocation, and Elder Donald L. Staheli, also of the Seventy, gave the benediction.
