Eight more mission presidents have been called by the First Presidency. The mission presidents and their wives will begin their service about July 1. Their assignments will be announced later. The new mission presidents are:
- Gary Wm. Farnes, 57, South Bend Ward, South Bend Indiana Stake; high councilor; former counselor in stake presidency, bishop and counselor, elders quorum president, Scoutmaster, Sunday School teacher, and missionary in the Texas Mission; senior executive vice president of Holy Cross Health System; received bachelor's degree in business and psychology from BYU, MBA and MHA degrees in business and hospital management from George Washington University, and fellowship from Johns Hopkins Medical Center; born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to William Darrel and Ida Burningham Farnes; married Mary Ellen Orton, seven children. She is counselor in Relief Society presidency; former stake Young Women president and counselor, ward Young Women president and counselor, Young Women adviser, Primary and seminary teacher; attended BYU; born in Salt Lake City to Alton Bentley and Clarissa Jorgensen Orton.- Gordon B. Holbrook, 53, Orchard 13th Ward, North Salt Lake Utah Stake; high priests group leader; former counselor in stake presidency, stake mission president, bishop, elders quorum president, and missionary in the New Zealand South Mission; associate director of Ogden LDS Institute; received bachelor's and master's degrees in psychology, history and education from BYU; born in Salt Lake City to Paul Lincoln and Virginia Sarah Bryson Holbrook; married Geraldine Larson, eight children. She is visiting teaching coordinator; former Relief Society president and counselor, Primary teacher, Young Women teacher, Relief Society teacher, nursery leader, and missionary in New Zealand; born in Brigham City, Utah, to Maurice Ludvig and Tessie Peck Larson.
- Dennis Chai Han Kim, 51, Mililani 2nd Ward, Mililani Hawaii Stake; high councilor; former secretary in stake Young Men presidency, stake missionary, bishop and counselor, area LDSSA president, high priests group leader, seventies president and group leader, Sunday School teacher, and missionary in the Southern Far East Mission; chartered financial consultant; received bachelor's degree in speech from Northwestern University and master's degree in business administration from the University of Hawaii; born in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, to Ferry Nak Soong and Louise Yung Kim Chun Kim; married Linda Chiang, six children. She is stake music chairwoman and stake and ward choir director; former stake Primary board member, Young Women president, counselor in Relief Society presidency, Primary teacher, choir director, pianist, Cub Scout den leader, and district missionary; received associate degree from Leeward Community College, bachelor's degree in music from the University of Utah, and teaching degree from Hua Lien Teachers' College; born in Hua Lien, Taiwan, to Ch'eng-Te and Hua-Ying Yang Chiang.
- Jerry V. Kirk, 63, Irvington Ward, Fremont California South Stake; early morning seminary teacher; former stake president and counselor, high counselor, bishop, and missionary with his wife in the Nigeria Lagos Mission; former NASA engineering manager; received bachelor's degree in geology and naval science from the University of Utah; born in Goshen, Utah, to Leonard C. and Fern W. Kirk; married Joanne Olson, five children. She is a Sunday School teacher; former temple ordinance worker, Relief Society president and counselor, Primary president, counselor in Young Women presidency, in-service coordinator, Primary teacher, and missionary with her husband in the Nigeria Lagos Mission; attended Ohlone College; born in Salt Lake City to Axel Bernhard and Edla Eleonora Hedin Olson.
- Hans Ralph Kuhni, 42, Park Meadows Ward, Park City Utah Stake; counselor in bishopric; former counselor in Young Men presidency, Sunday School teacher, seminary teacher, and missionary in the Texas Dallas Mission; self-employed developer/investor; attended BYU; born in Provo, Utah, to Ralph John and Gloria Christensen Kuhni; married Deanne Larsen, four children. She is a counselor in the Young Women presidency; former counselor in stake Relief Society presidency, Young Women president and counselor, Relief Society president, counselor in Primary presidency, Laurel adviser, and Primary teacher; attended Salt Lake Community College, Utah Valley State College and BYU; born in Lovell, Wyo., to Dean L. and Geneal Johnson Larsen.
- Rene Humberto Oliva, 39, Venezuela Ward, Guatemala City Guatemala Nimajuyu Stake; stake president; former high councilor, counselor in mission presidency, Sunday School president, family history adviser, and missionary in the Guatemala Quetzaltenango Mission; physician; received degree in administration from Mariano Calvez University and doctorate in medicine from San Carlos University; born in Izabal, Guatemala, to Cesar Augusto Oliva Cordon and Beria Julia Lopez Galvez Oliva; married Blanca Sandoval, two children. She is a Sunday School teacher; former member of Central America Area welfare committee, stake Relief Society president, member of mission board, family history librarian, region and stake family history adviser, seminary teacher, and ward family history adviser; received a bachelor's degree in business administration from San Carlos University; born in Jutiapa, Guatemala, to Raul and Blanca Garcia Sandoval.
- Grant L. Pullan, 62, Midvale 4th Ward, Midvale Utah North Stake; temple sealer and ordinance worker, and teacher development coordinator; former stake president and counselor, high councilor, stake Sunday School president, bishop, and priests quorum adviser; assistant superintendent of Jordan School District; received bachelor's degree in elementary education and master's degree in educational administration from BYU; born in Copperton, Utah, to Robert Earl and Hannah Lois Harwood Pullan; married Sharlene Foster, five children. She is a temple ordinance worker; former stake Young Women president, counselor in stake Primary presidency, Relief Society president and teacher, Young Women president and counselor, choir director, and cultural arts director; attended BYU; born in Salt Lake City to Kenneth Earl and Margaret Berneice Winn Foster.
- Merwin Leonard Waite, 69, Hacienda Heights 2nd Ward, Hacienda Heights California Stake; former counselor in South Africa Durban Mission presidency, high councilor, bishop, executive secretary, Young Men president, high priests group leader, and Scoutmaster; former math professor at Los Angeles Community College; received bachelor's degree in math, English and education from BYU, and master's degrees in education from University of Southern California and in math from Stanford University; born in Bell, Calif., to William Noble and June Louise Harriman Waite; married June Moncur, five children. Former missionary in the South Africa Durban Mission, stake Relief Society president, counselor in Primary presidency, organist, and seminary teacher; received bachelor's degree in theater and radio from the University of Utah; born in Brownsville, Texas, to Alphonso and LaPriel Cutler Moncur.
