- Thirteen new General Authorities and 16 new Area Authority Seventies were sustained during the second session of conference Saturday afternoon. Fifteen of the new Area Authority Seventies are from outside the United States -reflecting the growing international membership of the Church.

President Thomas S. Monson, first counselor in the First Presidency, conducted the session. The BYU Combined Choirs, under the direction of Mack Wilberg and Ron Staheli, with Bonnie Goodliffe at the organ, provided the music. They performed "All Creatures of Our God and King," "The Lord Is My Shepherd," "I Need Thee Every Hour," "Jesus, the Very Thought of Thee," and "Come, Follow Me."

Elder Angel Abrea and Elder L. Lionel Kendrick, both of the Seventy, offered the opening and closing prayers, respectively.
