Members of the Bakersfield California Stake provided relief efforts Feb. 28 to residents of a nearby farming community in the wake of recent rain storms and floods.
Some 50 members from Delano and Bakersfield gathered here for a day of cleaning debris from the homes of members and their neighbors after El Nino rains caused widespread flooding. Nearly 40 families were assisted as water-soaked carpets, flooring, furniture and appliances were removed from homes, along with damaged clothing and house goods. In addition, the Church sent a truck of food to Earlimart on March 2. The local American Legion helped distribute the food.
During the Feb. 28 day of service, one Earlimart resident helped by members said, "It makes me feel good to know that I have a brother who cares." A young mother noted, "Thank you so much for all your help. God bless you."
One volunteer Church member said, "I had a lot of other work and assignments to do today, but none were more important than to be here and help these people."
