- As the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, under the direction of Jerold Ottley, energetically finished performing an arrangement of "Called to Serve," Elder L. Tom Perry of the Quorum of the Twelve stepped to the podium and declared, "After that stirring number, I feel I should march up here!"
Elder Perry's remark set the spiritual tone as he was the first of eight speakers, including President Gordon B. Hinckley, to "march" to the podium during the conference's final session. That was the most speakers of any session during the two days of general conference.
Among the session's musical selections, the choir and congregation, accompanied by John Longhurst on the organ, sang "I Am a Child of God."
President Thomas S. Monson of the First Presidency conducted the session. Elder W. Rolfe Kerr of the Seventy gave the invocation. Following the benediction by Elder D. Lee Tobler, also of the Seventy, conference-goers in the Tabernacle and Assembly Hall on Temple Square exited into a rainstorm, the dominant weather of conference weekend.
