- Beneath a cold rain, umbrellas blossomed colorfully over lines of people waiting to enter the Tabernacle for what would be a historic session of conference Sunday afternoon. President Gordon B. Hinckley announced that 30 smaller temples would be built, an announcement of such magnitude that one could almost hear the congregation stop breathing for an instant.
The speakers who preceeded President Hinckley also contributed to the spirituality and edification of the session as they shared their experiences, insights and testimonies.
The invocation for the session was given by Elder F. Enzio Busche and the benediction by Elder John K. Carmack, both of the Seventy. The Tabernacle Choir under the baton of Jerold Ottley and Craig Jessop, accompanied by Clay Christiansen, sang three hymns.
