- The Easter season seemed to burst upon Temple Square Saturday morning, April 4, as the Nauvoo Bell chimed 10 a.m. and the Mormon Youth Chorus sang out "Christ the Lord is Risen Today." On this chilly spring morning, the Tabernacle, its pulpit adorned with pink chrysanthemums and Easter lilies, was packed with conference-goers for the opening session of the 168th Annual General Conference.

Conducting the session was President Gordon B. Hinckley, who "most warmly" welcomed to the "great world conference of the Church" those in the Tabernacle or watching via television or the Church satellite network.

A poignant moment during the session was when the chorus, directed by Robert C. Bowden and accompanied by Linda Margetts, stood with the congregation and sang "Come, Come, Ye Saints."

Elder Monte J. Brough of the Presidency of the Seventy offered the invocation and Bishop Keith B. McMullin, second counselor in the Presiding Bishopric, gave the benediction.
