While attending BYU in 1952 I went to Salt Lake City to attend general conference. In those days members of the congregation could file onto the stand and shake hands with the prophet.

I eagerly got in the line to shake hands with President David O. McKay.

Just as I began shaking hands with him, someone asked him a question. He turned his head to talk for what seemed like about 20 seconds. While he did this, he firmly kept hold of my hand until he could turn back to me and look me in the eyes and show me that I was somebody worth acknowledging.

I don't remember what anybody said at the conference, but I will always remember President McKay's example of love and his concern for each individual. — A. Blaine Brimley, Phoenix, Ariz.
