Blaine Jay Smith has been appointed as new manager of administrative services for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
Wendell M. Smoot, president of the Tabernacle Choir, made the announcement this week. He said that Brother Smith, 41, will be responsible for both business-related matters, including budget and financial operations, and for administering daily office operations in support of all artistic activities and logistical requirements for the choir's conductors, organists, singers and orchestra members.
On business matters, Brother Smith will report to Pres. Smoot. In his operations duties, he will be responsible to the Tabernacle Choir's music director, Jerold Ottley, and associate music director, Craig D. Jessop.
Brother Smith brings much business and artistic management experience to his new position with the choir, which is distinguished as one of the world's great musical organizations. Most recently, he was the general manager of Promised Valley Productions. Before that, he was general manager of Deseret Gym.
He has also held professional positions in sales and marketing in resort management, travel and education. He completed a master of business administration degree at BYU's Marriott School of Management.
Brother Smith was born in Alhambra, Calif., to Jay M. and Jena Vee Smith. He and his wife, Debra Ellis Smith, are parents of four children and are members of the Shadowbrook Ward, Kaysville Utah South Stake. His parents are serving in Maryland, where his father presides over the Maryland Baltimore Mission.
