The reorganization of the Church continued in 1849, according to A Comprehensive History of the Church 3:384.
It said, "The choice of three members of the apostles' quorum to form the first presidency, and disfellowshiping Lyman Wight, another of the apostles, had made four vacancies in that quorum, and these vacancies on the 12th of February were filled by the selection and ordination of Charles C. Rich, Lorenzo Snow, Erastus Snow, and Franklin D. Richards."
Elder Rich and Elder Erastus Snow were ordained by President Brigham Young and Elder Lorenzo Snow and Elder Richards were ordained by President Heber C. Kimball, President Young's first counselor.
Elder Rich died Nov. 17, 1883 and Elder Erastus Snow died May 27, 1888. Elder Lorenzo Snow was ordained president of the Quorum of the Twelve on April 7, 1889, and succeeded President Wilford Woodruff as president of the Church on Sept. 13, 1898. He died Oct. 10, 1901. Elder Richards was sustained as president of the Quorum of the Twelve on Sept. 13, 1898, succeeding President Snow in that office, and died Dec. 9, 1899.
