But behold, the Lord hath redeemed my soul from hell; I have beheld his glory, and I am encircled about eternally in the arms of his love. 2 Ne. 1:15.
I awoke and asked, "Where am I?" "You're in a hospital," I was told. "You've been in a coma for four weeks."
I listened in amazement as it was explained to me that I had been knocked from a horse and fractured my skull. Adding to my injury, someone trying to help had panicked and shaken me, resulting in the front and back of my brain being bruised. The neurosurgeon was unable to operate, and the prognosis was grim. I would either die or become a vegetable.
It was a struggle to try to learn to walk again; a struggle to try to see, to even hear as well as I used to, and even to learn to write again. I knew I had had the blessings of the priesthood and the prayers of the ward, and that my name was on the temple prayer roll. In addition, friends and family, therapists, and doctors were warm, caring and encouraging.
After nine months, I walked out of the hospital and soon I was serving in the Washington Temple. One door had been closed (I had taught school for 36 years) and another one opened. This scripture deeply touched me during my recovery.
I am now a temple worker in the Atlanta Temple one week a month and I am looking forward to working in the Raleigh North Carolina Temple when it is dedicated. Mary Gaither, Greensboro, N.C.
