Eight new mission presidents have been called by the First Presidency.
The mission presidents and their wives will begin their service about July
1. The new mission presidents and their assignments are:
Alan S. Anderson, 59, Brazil Rio De
Janeiro North Mission; American Fork 13th Ward, American Fork Utah North
Stake; stake executive secretary; former high councilor, bishop's
counselor, Young Men president, assistant ward clerk, counselor in elders
quorum presidency, Sunday School teacher, and missionary in the Brazilian
Mission; owner and president of Anderson & Sons Mortuary; received
associate degree as a funeral director from San Francisco College of
Mortuary Science, and bachelor's degree in psychology from BYU; born in
American Fork, Utah, to Earl Sullivan and Zola Grant Anderson; married
Annette Faux, five children. She is stake
music chairman; former stake missionary, stake Relief Society board member,
ward Relief Society board member, Primary teacher, Cub Scout den leader,
and ward music chairman; received bachelor's degree in English and music
from the University of Utah, and attended BYU and San Francisco
Conservatory of Music; born in Salt Lake City to Merrill Charles and Edna
Michelsen Faux.
Kimball D. Black, 60, Philippines
Cabanatuan Mission; Lilburn Ward, Lilburn Georgia Stake; counselor in
Georgia Atlanta Mission presidency; former counselor in stake presidency,
high councilor, stake Young Men president, bishop and counselor, seminary
teacher, and missionary in the West German Mission; director, LDS Social
Services; received bachelor's degree in psychology from Weber State
University, master's degree in administration and doctorate in counseling
from University of Denver; born in Santa Maria, Calif., to Kimball Morley
Chase and Caroline Nielson Black; married Beth
Grimstad, five children. She is teacher development leader; former
stake cultural arts specialist, Young Women and Primary president, ward
organist, ward activities committee chairman, Relief Society teacher, and
Primary chorister; received bachelor's degree in math from Weber State
University, and master's degree in education/counseling from the University
of Nevada/Las Vegas; born in Salt Lake City to Ezra Carling and Shirley
Anne Haile Grimstad.
Edson J. Lopes, 50, Brazil Maceio Mission;
Pampulha Ward, Belo Horizonte Brazil West Stake; multiregion welfare agent;
former regional welfare agent, stake president and counselor, district
president, branch president, and elders quorum president; teacher and owner
of language school; received master's degree in translation and doctorate
in linguistics from the Federal University of Minas Gerais; born in Belo
Horizonte, Brazil, to Jose Martins and Anna Zanotti Lopes; married Maria Carvalho, five children. She is a Sunday
School teacher; former stake Relief Society president and counselor, stake
family history center director, ward Relief Society and Primary president;
received bachelor's degree in history from the Federal University of Minas
Gerais; born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, to Almiro Jose and Manoela
Carvalho.
David W. Madsen, 55, France Paris Mission;
Rolling Valley Ward, Annandale Virginia Stake; stake mission president;
former regional representative, stake president and counselor, bishop, and
missionary in the French Mission; colonel, Judge Advocate Corps, U.S. Air
Force; received bachelor's degree in French from BYU, juris doctorate from
the University of Utah, and degree in estate planning from the University
of Miami; born in Riverdale, Md., to Louis L. and Edith L. Gundersen
Madsen; married Kathryn Pond, seven children.
She is a seminary teacher; former counselor and secretary in stake Relief
Society presidency, seminary teacher, ward Relief Society president and
counselor, counselor in Young Women presidency, Laurel adviser, and Blazer
leader; employed in fashion office at Nordstroms; received bachelor's
degree in English and psychology from BYU; born in San Bernardino, Calif.,
to Howard Martin and Kathryn Griffin Pond.
Brent M. Strong, 59, Austria Vienna South
Mission; Sugar City 3rd Ward, Sugar City Idaho Stake; stake Sunday School
president; former stake president and counselor, counselor in mission
presidency, high councilor, bishop, and missionary in the North German
Mission; chairman of the Foreign Language Department at Ricks College;
received bachelor's degree in German at BYU, master's degree in German from
Georgetown University, and doctorate in foreign language education from
Ohio State University; born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Marvin Albert Strong
Jr. and Reba Pope Strong; married Karolyn
Ashby, six children. She is a former stake Primary music leader,
counselor in stake Relief Society presidency, ward and branch Primary
president, counselor in Relief Society presidency; received bachelor's
degree in elementary education from BYU; born in Nephi, Utah, to George
Marion and Minnie Payne Ashby.
Jan T. Tveten, 63, Norway Oslo Mission;
Rochester Ward, Centralia Washington Stake; high councilor and temple
ordinance worker; former stake clerk, high councilor, bishop and counselor,
and priests quorum adviser; director of Washington State Parks; received
bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Washington;
born in Skien, Norway, to Karl and Ingerborg Lunden Tveten; married Ruth Dahle, seven children. She is a counselor in
the ward Young Women presidency and temple ordinance worker; former stake
Young Women president, ward Relief Society and Primary president; born in
Missoula, Mont., to Alton Hill and Zelda B. Jensen Dahle.
Wilbur T. Wagner, 68, Mexico Tijuana
Mission; Lomas Ward, Mexico City Mexico Chapultepec Stake; former counselor
in Mexico Mexico City South Mission presidency, high councilor, stake
missionary, bishop and counselor, ward executive secretary, Young Men
president, counselor in Sunday School presidency, and Primary teacher;
self-employed; born in Colonia Guadalupe Chihuahua, Mexico, to Albert Henry
and Mary Willa Thayne Wagner; married Carel
Robinson, nine children. She is a Relief Society teacher; former
counselor in stake Sunday School presidency, ward Primary president and
secretary, counselor in Young Women presidency, Primary and Sunday School
teacher, Jr. Sunday School coordinator, and Young Women teacher; attended
BYU; born in Mesa, Ariz., to James Elmo and Cary Martina Larsen
Robinson.
Floyd E. Warren, 64, Florida Ft. Lauderdale Mission; Loma Rica Ward, Yuba City California Stake; Sunday School teacher; former stake president, high councilor, bishop, ward mission leader, Sunday School and Primary teacher, and missionary in the Gulf States Mission; asbestos consultant; received bachelor's degree in zoology from BYU, master's degree in administration from Kansas State University and Cal State University at Los Angeles, and attended Wayne State University, UCLA, and the University of California Berkeley; born in Spring Canyon, Utah, to Floyd and Vera May Behling Warren; married Lola Martin, eight children. She is a Relief Society teacher; former counselor in stake Relief Society presidency, ward Young Women president, Relief Society president, Primary president, and Sunday School teacher; asbestos consultant; received bachelor's degree in speech and drama from BYU, and attended Del Mar Jr. College, Cal State Los Angeles, and San Francisco State University; born in New Orleans, La., to Leonard Nicol and Grace Dolphin Nugent Martin.
