The upcoming 150th anniversary of the founding of the Sunday School should be a reawakening of the importance of being good teachers.

In the home, at work and at church, the opportunities to teach abound. A new teaching resource made available this year can assist church members in their callings but also have universal applications. The manual provides helpful guidelines. Among them are:

  • Follow the Savior's example and teach as he taught.

  • Study the word of God. "Because teaching is such a universal assignment, it is requisite that every member of the church prepare himself or herself to study the holy scriptures."

  • Seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit. "When we have the Spirit to direct us, we are capable of teaching with great power."

"Our teaching will be effective if we approach it humbly through prayer and study. We will then be assisted by the spirit in imparting the word, consistent and in harmony with what the Lord would have us teach."
