Along the difficult path of mortality, members should let the Lord be their guide.

"Each one of us is on the path towards our eternal home. And for various reasons, we all need rescue — rescue from loneliness and heartache, from despair and disillusionment, from the consequences of innocent mistakes and blatant sins."

Unlike Satan, who abandons his followers once they stray from the straight and narrow path, the Savior is there to guide those who follow him.

"The Lord knows the way because he is the way and is our only chance for successfully negotiating mortality. His atonement makes available all of the power, peace, light and strength we need to deal with life's challenges."

It is each person's responsibility to draw upon the power of the atonement, which requires faith in the Lord and his promises.

But Christ's atonement "ensures that we need not bear the burdens of mortality alone. . . . The Savior will do for each of us what he has promised to do — if we will have faith in him and receive his gift."
