Bishops have a unique calling and call to service.

"Except for parents, the bishop has the best opportunity to teach and to cause to be taught the things that matter most."

Bishops are responsible for the youths of the church. They receive and account for tithes and offerings, manage the church's temporal affairs and seek out the poor. Bishops are judges over spiritual matters.

Bishops have both the right and the obligation to be directed by inspiration. "Revelation is the one credential that all bishops have in common."

"They vary in experience, personality and age, but they do not differ in their right to be guided spiritually."

Bishops are there when needed but should not be imposed upon unnecessarily. "The bishopric must have time to make a living and time for their own families."

Even if the church grows to have 100 million members, "it will still be no bigger than a ward. Everything needed for our redemption, save for the temple, is centered there."
