Family: Born May 17, 1942, in Oakland, Calif., to Francis Benjamin and Rose Blanche Thompson Winkel; married Karen Hart, nine children: Darin, Ryan, Marni Reeve, Amy, Jenny, Angela Reynolds, Vicki, Mindy and Lindsay; seven grandchildren.

Education: Bachelor's degree in communications from BYU; master's degree in business administration from Pepperdine University.

Employment: Retired owner and president of Beaver Lumber Company and Beaver Lumber of Arcata.

Church Service: President, Spain Madrid Mission, 1994-97; stake president, high councilor, bishop, seminary teacher, Scout leader, and missionary in Chile.
