President Faust celebrates his 79th birthday

President James E. Faust, second counselor in the First Presidency, observed his 79th birthday Saturday, July 31.
He was honored at a family gathering Friday evening, July 30. The next morning, on his birthday, he left Salt Lake City for Ecuador to participate in the dedication of the Guayaquil temple. (See article on page 3.)
A General Authority for nearly 27 years, President Faust was sustained as an Assistant to the Twelve in October 1972 and to the Presidency of the Seventy four years later in October 1976. He was sustained to the Quorum of the Twelve Sept. 30, 1978, and set apart as second counselor to President Gordon B. Hinckley March 12, 1995.
Before being called as a General Authority, he practiced law in Salt Lake City. President Faust and his wife, Ruth, have five children, 22 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
