Elder Joe J. Christensen, 70, Valley View 7th Ward, Salt Lake Valley View Stake, has been called as president of the San Diego California Temple, succeeding Pres. J. Clifford Wallace. Pres. Christensen's wife, Barbara Kohler Christensen, will serve as temple matron. Pres. Christensen was recently released from the Presidency of the Seventy. Pres. and Sister Christensen's photograph and biographical information will be published in the Sept. 4 Church News.
Elder W. Eugene Hansen, 71, Bonneville 1st Ward, Salt Lake Bonneville Stake, called as president of the Salt Lake Temple, succeeding Pres. Derrill H. Richards. Pres. Hansen's wife, Jeanine Showell Hansen, will serve as temple matron.
An emeritus General Authority, Pres. Hansen served in the Presidency of the Seventy, as executive director of the Temple Department and president of the Asia North Area. He also served as stake president and bishop. An attorney and trial lawyer, he graduated from Utah State University and received his law degree from the University of Utah. He served as chairman of the Utah State Board of Regents, president of the Utah State Bar and member of the Utah State University board of trustees, and is a retired colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve. He was born in Tremonton, Utah, a son of Warren E. and Ruth Steed Hansen.
Sister Hansen is a former leader and teacher in the Relief Society, Young Women and Primary organizations. She graduated from Utah State University. She was born in Stone, Idaho, to Rollin and Effie Young Showell.
