Some 2,500 Church members and others watched Sept. 1 as construction
crews placed an Angel Moroni statue atop the Edmonton Alberta and Raleigh
North Carolina temples. In each case, onlookers spontaneously began singing
"The Spirit of God," as crews moved one step closer to completing the new
temples.
More than 1,500 people gathered on the rainy, muddy day in Edmonton for the event. It is amazing to see the impact this temple is having on the members, said Eileen Bell, who coordinates public affairs for the temple committee. "It was emotional to see the angel [statue] raised."
Reporters from three television stations and one newspaper in Raleigh covered the event, attended by more than 1,000 Church members.
"It went off without a hitch," said Raleigh North Carolina Stake president John Taggart, coordinator of the local temple committee. "This is a thrilling day for the members of the Church in North Carolina and it's great to be a part of it."
Ground was broken for the Edmonton Alberta Temple Feb. 27 and for the Raleigh North Carolina Temple Feb. 6. Both temples are expected to be completed before the end of this year.
