With organist John Longhurst playing "Rise Up, O Men of God" as postlude, the capacity congregation at the Saturday evening priesthood session stood up to leave. Moments before, President Gordon B. Hinckley, who conducted the session, had advised the brethren that Interstate 15 was closed for construction, that those traveling south would have to take State Street. "It's too late to beat the clock," he said, then added wryly, "Please remember you've been to priesthood meeting, and be careful what you say."

But undoubtedly they would not soon forget this last general priesthood meeting likely to be held in the Salt Lake Tabernacle. The volume with which they sang the congregational hymn, "Now Let Us Rejoice," and the resounding "amen" they gave to President Hinckley's closing address attested to the fervency of feeling.

Barlow Bradford and Ronald Staheli took turns directing the choir composed of the men of the Tabernacle Choir and the BYU combined choirs. Among its selections was an unpublished text, "I Love the Lord," set to the melody of "Be Still My Soul" and reminiscent of Nephi's poignant psalm in 2 Ne. 4:15-35.

Elder Marlin K. Jensen of the Presidency of the Seventy gave the invocation, and Elder Claudio R.M. Costa of the Seventy offered the benediction.
