KRAKOW, Poland — Primary children from the Kaiserslautern Germany Military Stake recently donated quilts, bean bags and puppets, as well as clothing and hygiene items to children in an orphanage in this city. The donations were made through the welfare services missionaries of the Poland Warsaw Mission.

Two deliveries in Krakow were made, first, to a home for children over 3 who had not been adopted and, second, to the orphanage where infants and children up to 3 are cared for. Those delivering the supplies also took time to play with the children and show them how to use the puppets. The children eagerly took the toys and tossed the bean bags back and forth.

"This was an experience none of us will ever forget," said Jean L. Howden, former Kaiserslautern stake Primary president. "We each had a special moment and a memory we will hold in our hearts forever. I feel the project was very successful."

iconHelping their community

VISTA, Calif. — Members of the Vista California Stake accounted for the largest group of volunteers at a recent community service activity here. This was a combined effort spearheaded by the City of Vista and assisted by different churches, organizations, clubs and individuals. Four blocks were chosen on East Los Angeles Street in Vista. Houses were assigned to churches and groups.

The purpose of this effort was to take a rundown area where people did not have enough money to fix their houses and revitalize the neighborhood. Sidewalks were installed by the city. Then the volunteers began painting, landscaping, roofing and doing whatever else was needed to be done.

Members of the stake worked on three houses, and helped with other projects. Stake members called the project a fun task , noting that they look forward to participating next year. Bishop Bill Luchow of the Vista 8th Ward said, "This was a wonderful opportunity to let the citizens of Vista know we want to be involved, and we want to help our community."

Vista Mayor Gloria McClellan, a member of the Vista 1st Ward, commented, "This was one of the most positive and uplifting events that the City of Vista has ever seen."
