The 170th Annual General Conference of the Church — the first ever to convene in the new, 21,000-seat Conference Center in Salt Lake City — will be held Saturday and Sunday, April 1-2.
Interest has run high for this, the first public gathering in the new Conference Center. More than 400,000 ticket requests came to Church headquarters, far exceeding the 21,000-seat capacity of the hall.
General sessions will be conducted at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., MST on Saturday and MDT on Sunday. The general priesthood meeting will be conducted Saturday at 6 p.m.
All general sessions of the conference will be relayed via satellite to Church gatherings throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, the Caribbean and Latin America. Sessions will also be seen live in the Intermountain West on KSL-TV Channel 5, Salt Lake City. More than 1,500 other radio and television stations and cable systems will carry all or portions of conference proceedings.
President Gordon B. Hinckley will preside over the conference sessions. He and his counselors in the First Presidency, President Thomas S. Monson and President James E. Faust, will conduct them.
Inspirational messages from members of the First Presidency, Quorum of the Twelve and other General Authorities will highlight the conference.
The Salt Lake Tabernacle will accommodate overflow seating, the first time in its history that the venerable old building has been relegated to that role for a general conference. Other overflow seating will be in the Assembly Hall, North Visitors Center and on the temple grounds.
