In his closing remarks at the Sunday afternoon session of the 170th Annual General Conference April 2, President Gordon B. Hinckley announced six new temples for Africa, South America, Europe and the US. Three countries outside the US will receive their first temples. Temples will be built in:

Aba, Nigeria, Asuncion, Paraguay and Helsinki, Finland.

Inside the US, three states will receive additional temples. Texas will gain its third temple, to be built in Lubbock. Arizona will gain a second temple, which will be in Snowflake. The state of Washington will have its third temple, this one to be constructed in the tri-cities area of Richland, Kennewick and Pasco.
