MEXICO CITY, Mexico — More than 9,000 people visited the Museum of Mormon History during 1999, many of them students at local primary schools, said Fernando R. Gomez, director.

The students visited in conjunction with the government's program to provide free education of the local tourist attractions to the population of Mexico City.

Visitors expressed appreciation for the kind way they were welcomed to the museum, which is located across the street from the Mexico City Mexico Temple. Many expressed surprise that such a facility would exist to explain the arrival and founding of the Church in Mexico.

The museum also sponsored a number of events commemorating important anniversaries, such as the 50th anniversary of the Monte Corona Ward. At this anniversary of one of the oldest wards in Mexico, some of the pioneer members were recognized.
