Two new mission presidents have been called by the First Presidency. The mission presidents and their wives will begin their service about July 1. Here are their names, assignments and biographical information:
Ronald Taylor Harrison, 44, Belgium Brussels Mission; executive secretary, Montgomery (Chinese) Branch, Washington D.C. Stake; former bishop, Sunday School gospel doctrine teacher, high councilor, Scoutmaster, ward Young Men president, stake Young Men president's counselor, teachers quorum adviser, stake mission president, and elders quorum president; vice president of Marriott International; received MBA from University of Washington; born in Palo Alto, Calif., to Curtis Vernell and Deanne Parkinson Taylor Harrison; married Deborah Marriott; five children. She is a member of Church International Affairs Group and counselor in ward Relief Society presidency; former ward Young Women president's counselor, ward Primary president's counselor, ward Young Women president and counselor, and organist; member of Advisory Council of National Institutes of Mental Health; received bachelor's degree in history from BYU; born in Washington, D.C., to J. Willard Jr. and Donna Rae Garff Mariott.
Rafael Avelino Mendez, 62, Dominican Republic Santiago Mission; Statesville Ward, Hickory North Carolina Stake; bishop; former bishop and counselor, temple ordinance worker, ward executive secretary, elders quorum president, Sunday School teacher, stake president and counselor, and mission president's counselor; retired from sales and marketing positions with American Cyanamid in San Juan, Puerto Rico; studied business at University of Puerto Rico; born in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico, to Rafael Avelino and Irma Estrella Martinez Mendez; married Patricia Ann Stanford; four children. She is a ward Relief Society president's counselor and temple ordinance worker; former Relief Society homemaking leader, Primary teacher, stake Relief Society president's counselor, stake librarian, district Young Women president and district Relief Society president; born in Huntsville, Texas, to Ural Utah and Susie Lou Allen Stanford.
