HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. — Missionaries were recently recognized by city officials here for the estimated 2,120 hours of service they have given during the past year.

Huntington Beach Mayor Dave Garofolo commended Elder Chad Butterfield and Elder Kevin Carver of the California Long Beach Mission, along with mission President Grant L. Pulan, for the service. During the past year, more than a dozen missionaries have been seen in the city sweeping sidewalks, removing litter from roadside planters and planting shrubs or flowers.

John Van Oeffelin, tree and landscape supervisor for Huntington Beach, Calif., praised the missionaries for their "tremendous consistency and faithfulness" in contributing their labor on a weekly basis, which resulted in an estimated cost savings to the city of more than $25,000.
