Family: Born May 22, 1935, in Riverside, Calif., to Lionel Aldridge and Amelia Eileen Baird Gillespie. Married Virginia Ann Larsen July 18, 1958, in Manti Utah Temple; five children: Clarice (Robert Hoffman), James (Merri Lyn Eldridge), Richard (Gabriela Rodriguez), Brian (Mary Lou Petzold) and David (Eden Bodily), 14 grandchildren.

Education: Bachelor's and master's degree in civil engineering, Utah State University, 1960, 1962; doctorate in civil engineering, fracture mechanics and failure analysis, University of Arizona, 1968.

Employment: Director of Transportation Safety Institute with U.S. Department of Transportation (1977-1997); engineer and sales agent with Allied Western (1973-1977); professor of civil engineering at University of Oklahoma (1966-1973).

Church Service: President of Mexico Tampico Mission, 1997-present; patriarch, 1976-present; regional representative, 1978-1986; stake president, 1968-1976; bishop, 1967-1968; branch president, 1966-1967; counselor in bishoprics, high priests assistant group leader, 1958-66; full-time missionary in Spanish American Mission and mission president's counselor in West Spanish American Mission, 1955-1958.
