As the dedication of new temples continues at a rapid pace, another "first" has been reached.

On May 20-21, three temples were dedicated in one weekend, the first time in Church history this has happened, and an event not likely to be repeated in the near future. The dedication of two temples in Mexico, the Tampico and the Villahermosa temples on May 20 and 21, respectively, and the Nashville Tennessee Temple on May 21 have brought the Churchwide total of operating temples to 85.

Dates have been announced for the dedication of an additional 10 temples — the Montreal Quebec and San Jose Costa Rica on June 4; Fukuoka Japan on June 11; Adelaide Australia on June 15; Melbourne Australia on June 16; Suva Fiji on June 18; Merida Mexico on July 8; Veracruz Mexico on July 9; Baton Rouge Louisiana on July 16; and Birmingham Alabama on Sept. 3.

An additional 23 temples have been announced, and groundbreakings and construction started on nine of those. Six of the 13 were announced recently at general conference, and another seven are awaiting groundbreakings. Seventeen temples have been dedicated since the first of this year.
