An ambitious schedule of area general conferences in Asia presided over by President Spencer W. Kimball began on Aug. 9, 1975, in Tokyo, Japan, and was highlighted by the announcement of a temple to be built in Tokyo, according to the Aug. 9, 1975, Church News. Conferences were also held during the trip in Manila, Philippines; Hong Kong; Taipei, Taiwan; and Seoul, Korea.
After Saturday and Sunday conference sessions in Japan, sessions were held on Tuesday in Manila, Wednesday in Hong Kong, Thursday in Taipei, and Saturday and Sunday in Seoul. President Kimball spoke at every conference while other General Authorities were divided among the five gatherings.
"Close to 45,000 members and friends in the five countries attended the sessions of conferences in their respective areas," stated a wrap-up article in the Aug. 23, 1975, Church News.
The article also noted: "Press conferences were held in each country. In most instances, President Kimball would give a word of greeting and explain the purpose of the Church and the conference, and questions from the press, radio and television were generally answered by Elder [Gordon B.] Hinckley."
It was reported that the conferences got good television coverage in each country.
