DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania — Some 28 members of the Chang'ombe of Dar es Salaam Branch of the Kenya Nairobi Mission spent a Saturday in August serving the Sisters of Charity Rest Home and Orphanage. When the adults, youth and children of the branch arrived, they were greeted in the courtyard of the home by the Sisters of Charity, wearing the white and blue habits made famous by Mother Teresa.

Soon cement floors, windows, walls, tables and chairs were receiving their weekly scrubbing. Members assisted the sisters in attending to the needs of the children who ranged from newborn to mid-teenage. Others entertained those in wheelchairs, the elderly, the sick and the disabled. The members danced, sang and worked or just sat and held hands with the disabled adults. The many parentless children were likewise entertained. Church youth played soccer or spent time pushing young ones again and again on swings.

After a truckload of oranges had provided a treat for everyone, the members left. The ride home was said to be peaceful; everyone was quiet and feeling an overwhelming thankfulness and love for those they had served.
